In return for not being nastily executed by being torn to bits, Nifft agrees to an expedition. Demons such as this are just the beginning "Her mouth gaped-displaying not teeth but black barbs-and she paid out an endless red tongue that dangled to her wounded throat and licked it caressingly. Then, in a gurgling whisper, she said: "I'm going to lick your face clean off your skull. Slowly, thoroughly, lick it entirely off."
